Hamish Keith: Life For Art’s Sake

September 17, 2008 at 12:04 am (13 September 2008)

I thoroughly enjoyed this interview.

A lot of people are so polished when they’re being interviewed that it sounds so rehearsed, like they’ve said it so many times they’re just spitting out answers and not really being in the moment and thinking about the answer right there …

But he wasn’t like that. He sounded like he was enjoying the interview + thinking about he answers on the spot. Which makes it engaging and enjoyable to listen to.

He was so on the money about the shy comment. We all have shy moments … which is good. I think there’s something seriously wrong with people who never have moments of doubting themselves and feel unsure about themselves or what they’re doing.

Arthur Meek: Buckwhips And The PM

September 16, 2008 at 11:23 pm (13 September 2008)

I thought Kim lost it a bit at the start when she started talking about the equipment … but it came back on track.

Never heard of Arthur Meek before. Nice voice. He sounds just like one of the FOTC guys. He sounded relaxed and geekily hot. Mmm.

Play sounded interesting too. Although, yeah, I would be put off by the fact that there was only one person in it. But I’d probably go just to see him after listening to this.

Update: Just searched for him on YouTube and found him in this. Damn, he is pretty hot.

“inbreeding”
“civilians”
Ha ha. I like his choice of words and his way of thinking.
Interesting, funny, intelligent guy.
The question about language was interesting too.

Ho-hum. No deep insights here.
“Persistence.” Yeah … well, duh, of course.
“I’m not sure that a squeezable yogurt tube does it for me though, Ian.” (14:52)
HA HA HA. Me too.

Just listened to this again. It’s interesting listening to him talking about people counting their chickens etc after he already has the nomination.
Good points about the sexism.
Ha. I bet he does support Obama.

LOL
Interesting interview. Although often her answers sounded quite rehearsed and not like she was thinking of them in the moment. What she is doing is interesting … but her book didn’t sound like it would be. Take one step at a time … yeah, of course. And?

Wow. I was so blown away by the song she sung. Amazing.

I enjoyed the interview too. I liked her – she seemed quirky, honest, humble and relaxed.

My ears! My ears! Ugh … what an awful, annoying voice, speaking style, and way of thinking … if what she does counts as “thinking”.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally, greeeaaat, yeah. For god’s sake, someone buy this poor girl a thesaurus … and a brain … she sounds like a skanky tramp with two brain cells.

“For somebody who presents herself as, you know, somebody of a, shall we say, low attention span …” (26:11) HAHAHAHA burrrrrrrrrrn. Kim’s polite way of pointing out that she sounds like an idiot.

Surprisingly, her music wasn’t bad. I might even go to her concert if she promised to NEVER speak during songs. If I was giving her career advice, I’d tell her to shut up and sing, and never, ever, give interviews. But then, what do I know.

The podcast repeated from 17:45 (starting again from 2:45) until 32:45. Annoying … but great interview.

I love how he speaks – he sounds excited and inspired and like he’s loving his life. Great.

“There used to be this fantasy about New  Zealand – particularly the sort of southern quality of New Zealand character – of a certain kind of morose, taciturn, guardedness and a reticence verbally. My experience has always been that give New Zealanders a microphone or an opportunity and  often you can’t stop them talking. We have a tremendously rich vocabulary.” (5:46)

Interesting.

I learnt this word today: atavistivic

adj. relating to or characterized by reversion to something ancient or ancestral
